Walking in LA? - Part 5

On my last full day of my vacation, I decided that I would stay near the hotel.  This meant a walk along Sunset Boulevard, a day shopping on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills, more shopping at the Beverly Center, stops on Melrose and Robertson and to end the day, a visit to Hollywood.

The day started off the same as the two before it -- with breakfast at the hotel.  After departing, on foot, I spent most of the morning walking along Sunset Boulevard.  My intention was to have lunch at Roscoe's Chicken 'n Waffles on North Gower, but I found the line too long (1 hour wait!).  Instead, I walked in the opposite direction and had lunch at Carney's instead.

After lunch, I drove to Beverly Hills, parked the car, and made my way through the shops along Rodeo Drive.  After stopping at the Beverly Center and after taking a stroll down Melrose (and visiting the new Paul Smith shop), I was hungry and decided to stop off at Pink's.

Walking in LA? - Part 4

For me, Santa Monica has always been a great place to visit.  I especially like all of the shops along the 3rd Street Promenade and the wide variety of restaurants that the city has to offer.

The city's proximity to the ocean, and the lazy, relaxed attitude of the city's residents, made my visit here feel special.  After walking in and out of shops for hours, I decided to head back to the pier, and the Ashes and Snow exhibit.

Dinner was at Warszawa.

Walking in LA? - Part 3

By the next morning, I felt re-energized and ready to hit the road.  I ate a small breakfast at the hotel before making the drive to Santa Monica.  The sun was out, the air was brisk and it seemed like the weather was perfect for visiting the pier, the Third Street Promenade and all of the design shops in the area.

When I arrived at the Pier, I found a parking space and noticed many shipping containers stacked high within the parking lot.

Walking up to the entrance, I discovered that the Nomadic Museum (formerly located at New York City's Pier 54), designed by architect Shigeru Ban, and Gregory Colbert's exhibition, Ashes and Snow, had relocated to the Santa Monica pier.  Since it was an exhibit that I had wanted to see, I decided to stop here before heading back to LA.

After doing some walking along the pier, and taking some photos....

...I decided to have some lunch at Border Grill, which is just a short walk away from the pier.

Walking in LA? - Part 2

After having very little success with the shops at Camarillo, I decided to head back to Los Angeles.  On the drive back, I got a call from a friend who has a home in West Covina.  He asked if it would be a good time to meet.  I told him that I would stop by the hotel first, before driving out to meet him for dinner.

The drive out to West Covina was uneventful, but tons of traffic prevented me from making it there in the hour or so that I had allotted.  In fact, it took me close to 2 1/2 hours to drive out to meet him and by that time, it was already quite dark.

We agreed to meet at a strip mall near his home called Hong Kong Plaza for some Malaysian food at Penang Malaysian Cuisine.

We had a great time catching up, as we hadn't seen each other for quite some time.  By the time I left the restaurant, it was quite late and I was exhausted.  I drove back to the hotel to prepare myself for the following day's excursion.

Walking in LA? - Part 1

...nobody walks in LA, right?  It's been a while since my last trip to LA and I was highly anticipating this trip because I was going to spend time with friends, and family, that I hadn't seen in quite some time.  The trip over was a disaster waiting to happen (let's just say that I almost missed the flight due to having to work late, among other things).

I arrived in LA at about 4:45 am and proceeded to pick up my rental car and drive over to the hotel to get some rest.  Luckily, the hotel let me check in early, with no extra charge, and I quickly fell asleep -- missing a wake up call -- and some friends that came to look for me.  Upon waking, in the afternoon, I felt refreshed and ready to hit the road.

I decided that I would do some shopping and head over to the outlet mall at Camarillo.  Once I was near the mall, I decided to stop for a burger at...guess where...

Once inside, I had to order my favorite, the Double Double combo.

There were lots of people inside this particular In-N-Out, which speaks a lot about the chain's popularity here.  After a short wait, my number was called and I was ready to dive right in. 

It was hot, fresh and so good....  How does this look?

In the past, I inquired about a possible franchise here in Hawaii, but was told that all of the restaurants are corporate owned.  Shucks...
