Ladurée - Paris, France
I only had a day in Paris, and not even a whole day at that. I took the Eurostar from London at 6:30 am and arrived in Paris at just about 10:00 am. The train departed Paris at just after 8:00 pm for an 11:30 pm arrival in London.
This meant that I really did not have much time to explore the city, but it was nice to be back in Paris after a 13 year absence. I also missed places that I really was hoping to visit -- pâtisserie Sadaharu Aoki, Pierre Hermé or the original Ladurée located at rue Royale. Instead, on the way back to the train station, I stopped at the Ladurée salon located on the avenue des Champs Elysées.

Your post brought tears to my eyes of many happy afternoon teas in the truly MAGNIFICENT establishment, when I lived in Paris.

To bad you didn't make it to rue Royale. That's a nice room.
I visited Tokyo in the last two weeks of January, and stopped by Sadaharu Aoki's counter in Isetan (across the floor from the Hevin-Ducasse-Herme holy trinity, each of which I also paid a visit!). I bought a salted caramel eclair, and macarons in matcha, sakura and kurogoma flavors, to take back to eat in my hotel room. The macarons were great, and very true to the flavors. The eclair was sublime. I went back a few days later and bought two jars of confiture -- lait and matcha lait -- to bring home. I've been stirring them into hot milk, which works quite well.
I hope next time to visit one of his salons to try something that wouldn't travel well. Incredible stuff.

I too only had 5 hours to explore and bumped into the chocolate- tea room on Rue Royale. I knew this was something special- Laduree- I too make chocolate and was fascinated to see what products they produced....
