Dragonfly - San Francisco, California
I first heard about Dragonfly when I picked up a copy of San Francisco magazine. I was excited to eat here because they proclaimed the food to be on par with the food at the Slanted Door, which I paid a visit to last year. Was my experience here just as good?
Dragon taste for two (US$13.95).
This was an appetizer sampler of all of their favorites -- tom chien (golden shrimp), goi cuon (spring rolls), bo nuong (sesame beef) and goi sen tom thit (lotus root salad).
Shaking beef (US$19.00).
Bamboo rice (US$13.00).
Marinated frog steamed in bamboo tube with rice.
Dragonfly tapioca (che ba mau, US$3.00).
Black sticky rice (xoi nep than, US$3.00).
Take a look at what's inside.

May the best "shaking beef" win??
Can't wait to hear your verdict ;)

Hi Reid,
Looks so yummy.
Very curious about the frog though. Looks interesting. Did it taste like chicken?
Loving the desserts!

Hey Reid!
It's been a while since I've last commented (so long that I don't even know if i've ever commented!). Anyways...
Wow, upscale vietnamese restaurant, eh? With those prices, I'm kind of scared to hear what you have to say about the food!!

Frog?! Frog steamed in bamboo tube?! I wish I could try it!

Lajja,
Sorry for the delay. I think that the shaking beef at the Slanted Door was better.
Hi Veruca Salt,
I didn't put my tasting notes down, but I didn't think it tasted like chicken. The flavor is hard to describe. Depending on the age of the frogs, they can vary widely in taste and texture.
Hi Christine,
It was definitely upscale, but not as upscale as the Slanted Door. THe prices weren't too bad, but they were much higher here than at your "typical" Vietnamese restaurant.
Hi Obachan,
I enjoyed the frog. I'm sure you would like it if you had tried it.
