H & T Burgers
I don't often get out to the Windward side of the island, but when I do, I usually make a stop at Windward Mall. There isn't really a great selection of stores there, but I do like to stop in for a bite to eat at one of the many small restaurants that one can find there. One of these is H & T Burgers.
The shop is fairly small with 5 tables along the left side of the shop. On the right, is the counter where you place your order, tender payment and pick up your food. Everything is prepared to order (although I think some of the food might be pre-cooked) so it's usually quite fresh. And even when it's busy, I've never had to wait for more than 5 minutes. Looking over the menu, I usually skip the plate lunches and head right for the combo meals. For a decent price, you'll get a burger or hot dog, french fries and a medium drink. There are four combo meals to choose from...
After I made my selection and paid for my food, I watched as my food was prepared.
This time, I had the teriburger with french fries (US$4.90).
The teriburger is seasoned with teriyaki sauce before being cooked. The sweet, slightly salty sauce is not as good as what you'll get at W & M, but it's decent. The french fries were light and crisp and unsalted!
On another occasion, I sampled the chili hot dog with french fries (US$4.90).
The hot dog was a little over done. It's possible that they don't sell many of these so it was sitting for a while. The chili was a little spicy, but it tasted like it was from a can, rather than homemade.
The food here is a departure from the usual mall type of eatery (i.e. McDonald's, Pizza Hut, etc.) and the food is decent. The prices are right, which is why this place is quite popular. If you do happen to visit Windward Mall and find yourself at H & T Burgers, try the teri fries -- french fries covered with teriyaki sauce. They are delicious.

I love the look of that pattie! The chilli in the dog looks very dark... nice amount of mustard in it too. If your interested, some desc and pics of aussie burgers on my recent post here http://rusticfillings.blogspot.com/2006/01/early-afternoon-around-town.html I thought it was a bit of a coincidence doing burgers on the same day or just about!

M-m-m-m...looks real ono to me Reid! Funny how my arteries just hardened up when I stared at the monitor. Takes me back to the old W&M days where the buns were toasted on the grill and had that extra "crunch" to it!

Oh my aching heart! LOL Everything looks so good, but the burger patty looks a little bit too dark. I could go for the chili dog...;9

I think the burger looks so dark due to the marinade.

H & T is very popular at WWW Mall. It's usually very full on weekends and very busy. I've eaten there a couple of times and it's been OK. It probably got busier when McDonalds closed. Wonder how it will do once Ruby Tuesdays, IHOP & Farrells opens this year...some major competition... :)

Hi Rachel,
The dark coloring of the patty is due to the teriyaki sauce they use to marinade it. It's quite good.
The topping on the chili dog is actually cheese (not mustard), although I do it eat with mustard too. =)
BTW...I do find it interesting that we ate almost the same things too!
Hi Clinton,
Did you have to remind me about W&M? *sigh* These were OK, but nowhere near as good as W&M. I think I need a fix soon. And yes, I do like it when the bun is lightly toasted.
Hi MBS,
LOL! But there are so many other things you can eat there, right?
Hi Milgwimper,
The burger is dark because it's marinated with teriyaki sauce. You should try making burgers this way sometime, they are my favorites.
BTW...have you ever had a kim chee burger? It's delicious!
Hi MBS,
You're absolutely correct! =)
Hi ww eater,
Welcome to the blog!
H & T is definitely popular because everytime I'm in there, there's either a line or the tables are all occupied. I have to agree with you about the food being just "OK".
I too wonder what's going to happen when IHOP and Farrell's open up later on. I actually have been trying to visit Windward Mall more just so that I won't miss the opening of Farrell's. Someone bet me that I couldn't eat a whole zoo sundae. I'm definitely going to die trying!

Hi Reid - Fries with teri sauce? That does sound interesting; I like gravy fries; well any carb will do, actually. I'm sure you can't wait for Farrell's to open up!

I think they'll be ok. IHOP is more of a breakfast place and Farrells is more of a place to go for a party--and eat all that ice cream (I still remember the Farrell's at Kahala Mall). IHOP and Farrell's can't beat H & T's price.

Reid,
Teriyaki sauce on the burgers is one of my favs too, although I haven't had that in awhile. Hmmm
Yes, kimchi burgers Oh yum... Yes I love kimchi burgers. There was a Korean fast food place here that used to sell them. They were good, but usually I make them myself now mainly because my Mom keeps giving me gallon jars of kimch every month. I have to eat them all somehow! :) So usually I have to think of interesting ways of eating kimchi besides the normal Korean dishes. I have a gallon and a 1/2 to use before March. ;P

Hi Kirk,
The teri fries are good if you eat them hot. The sauce starts to gel as it cools. I'm sure you know what that's like.
And yes, I can't wait for Farrell's. Almost feel like I want to have a birthday party there! =D
Hi MBS,
You're right about the prices, but I'm sure that H & T will lose some business to both places. There's also going to be a Ruby Tuesday opening up there as well.
Hi Milgwimper,
I love kimchee burgers. Kimchee is also good on tuna fish sandwiches. If you haven't tried that yet, you should!
