TacoLicious Taco Truck
A while ago, I used to see this taco truck parked in the Daiei Kaheka parking lot during the afternoons. In fact, the truck used to be parked adjacent to the one occupied by Tae's Teppanyaki. Lately, though, I've been seeing this truck parked there in the evenings instead. Nowadays, there are a couple of stools out front and there have even been times when a line has formed at the window.
The menu is quite short, consisting of 3 types of California-style soft tacos in two sizes -- steak (Angus beef), chicken (white meat chicken) and veggie in either border (1/4 pound) or grande (1/2 pound). I opted for the grande steak taco with a whole wheat tortilla (US$4.80).
Chunks of Angus beef are topped with some fluffy rice, black beans and homemade guacamole. The beef was lean and tender, well-marinated and tasty. The rest of the ingredients proved to be complimentary and I enjoyed the combination of the flavors found in each bite. Half way through the taco, I asked myself why I waited so long to try this.
Although this may seem a little pricey, what gets served out of this truck is some good quality stuff. Concentrating on a single menu item (or 3), makes things even better as consistency should be guaranteed, right? Early evening/late night dining options just got a little better with my visit to this truck. I'll definitely be back again...soon!

PLEASE tell us that you liked the food....I'm jonesing so bad for some tacos and burritos that I just do want to hear how much this sucked. Then again, maybe it's better if you say it wasn't good!

That's a weird looking taco Reid! Must be a different part of Mexico that serves it that way with guacamole. I'm more used to eating soft tacos or carne asada wrapped in soft corn tortillas topped with pico de gallo and cilantro. Our fajitas here in LA are served with flour tortillas instead of the corn ones but that's a different dish in itself. In Santa Barbara, there was a place called Superica's that served Central American tacos which were very popular...but it brought tears to your eyes with all of the spices. Pardon while I go and wipe my face because I'm salivating all over the place.

Been reading your blog for awhile now and never posted before.
I must say I am glad to see you "adding in" the lunchwagons too. I have a few favorites but was unsure if you would try them since you mostly cover restaurants.
BTW great blog!!

I love taco. I like mine with soft skin & generous mountains of guacamole, sour cream and onions. Yummy!

Hi Big BoK,
It was tasty, but I think I maybe next time, I'll have two of the border sized tacos so I can try one of each.
Hi Milgwimper,
Homemade tacos! That was so nice of DH. Mmmm! I'm going to have to make some at home sometime soon. =)
Hi Moira,
It was good, not the best, but much better than...well, the usual fast food places. =)
Hi Clinton,
Maybe it's the photo. The truck offered corn or whole wheat tortillas. Apparently, this is a California style taco wagon, but I'm not sure what that's supposed to mean.
Hi Kyle,
Welcome to my blog, I'm glad you enjoy it.
I'd really like to cover more lunch wagons, but I don't seem to see them around anymore. If you'd like to offer up some recommendations, I'd be more than happy to check them out.
It's also quite hard because most of the wagons are well...lunch wagons and I don't often get out for lunch during the week. *sigh*
Thanks for commenting and delurking!
Hi boo_licious,
It was good, but not as good as some of the nasi lemak that was on your site the other day! =)
Hi FatMan,
Hope you are doing well. Thanks for paying me a visit. I like tacos that have soft tortillas too. Mmmmm! =) Send me an e-mail when you have a chance.

Reid - 1/2lb carne asada taco - that's pretty huge! I'm not quite sure what they mean by California style tacos either, and I've had my share here in California! :o) How large was that tortilla?

Hey Reid, I'm actually on Oahu right now :D And I'm looking at your blog for food ideas (what a dork, huh?)...
I might drop by this taco place if i'm nearby the location. I'll will also be checking a few other places listed here, too, hopefully!... I just had my much needed curry house fix. :P Hmm.. what's next? so many choices here! *sigh*

I tried this place before. With my honest opinion, I think it's the worst Taco I ever had. For $5 I'd rather spend at the Taco Bell.

Hi Kirk,
It was a large "taco" for sure. The tortilla was huge. That "taco" filled the stryo container which is about half the size of a normal styro container. The torilla was maybe 8" in diameter?
Hi James,
I wish I had known you were coming. Maybe we could have met up to do some research. If you're available, maybe we can meet up for a grind session at Nori's. heh!
Hi Sam,
Thanks for dropping by my blog.
Sorry you didn't like the taco here, but I found it quite good. I don't really care for Taco Bell because it's too Americanized for me. In fact, I wouldn't even want to call it Mexican.
Thanks again!

Taco Bell is one of those "gotta have it once a year" things for me. To bad they did away with the Bell Beefer... =o(

Reid,
Once in a while I'll stop off at Del Taco and order a few "Americanized" tacos for lunch. By the way, Del Taco and Taco Bell are somewhat related by owners and started their first taco stands near San Bernardino. Mr. Bell started the Taco Bell while his partner started the Del Taco chain. When I was a teen, I worked part time spending money for a small fast food chain in Gardena called Pup n' Taco and knew the owner (Rick) who later sold off to Taco Bell. Tacos and hot dogs were 15 cents apiece back in the 60s. You could have fed a small family for a buck and still had change for a cherry slush. Anyway, that was a brief short history from my taco history book.

Hi Jo,
Don't know why, but I've never liked Taco Bell for some reason. I think I ate it once and had an upset stomach. *sigh*
Hi Clinton,
WOW! Thanks for that bit of trivia. I've seen Del Taco all over California, but never ate at one. I guess I don't really enjoy those "fast food" tacos.

YIKES! That would do it for me! I didn't know about Taco Bell till we came to CA, at .10 a pop, I kinda liked 'em!

Hey Reid, I just got back from Oahu today. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to stop by this place. Hopefully it'll still be here when I visit again (maybe in November).
I'd really be honored to meet and grind with you! Wow... I could get your autograph and stuff.
Nori's sounds great. That place has been on my list for a while. I never really found my favorite food over there, yet. The saimin is good, though.
That'd be classic... two food bloggers in one restaurant at the same time.
It'd be awesome going loco moco hunting, too!

Hi James,
It would really be cool to meet up. Hopefully I will be able to get out to Hilo in October. If not, I'm probably going to visit with some friends in Kapaa.
I'm really hoping to visit Hilo again so that I can eat at Nori's and Itsu's....and all those other wonderful places...*sigh*
BTW...autograph? Who me?
