Sleepless in Seattle - Part 5
After walking several blocks along First Avenue, I came upon the Seattle Art Museum at the corner of University. Here is Jonathan Borofsky's 48' tall kinetic sculpture titled "Hammering Man" that stands on the corner. Isn't it amazing?
After walking a few more blocks, I finally made it to Pier 52. I arrived in just enough time to purchase my ticket and hop on the next ferry which was just about to leave. After boarding the ferry, I made my way to the upper desk and sat down feeling the cool breeze and the warm sun. Here are a few photos.
Once on the island, I was able to walk around and get a feel for the place. Quiet, calm, and tranquil were a few words that immediately came to mind. The silence was a bit unnerving at first, but after a leisurely stroll, I felt like I could stay forever.
After taking pictures around the harbor and the surrounding areas, and checking out a few of the antique shops on the island, I decided to have a light snack prior to boarding the ferry for the return trip. As I walked along the street in the direction of the ferry landing, I noticed Blackbird Bakery.
Inside the bakery were display cases full of mouthwatering pastries, colorful cookies and a huge selection of cakes and pies. I enjoyed a slice of the "rustic" lemon tart (US$2.90) and a medium sized cup of the "life changing" lavender lemonade (US$1.55).

After the overly sweet, and not at all sour slice of lemon tart and the interestingly flavored "life changing" lemonade (can you tell), I continued my walk to the ferry landing. After the trip back to the "mainland", I was ready for dinner. I was to meet a friend at Typhoon!, which was located on the corner of Western and Union.
To be continued...
Hi Reid - I think the Bainbridge Ferry is the best value "Bay tour" of Seattle. We've even taken it in the Middle of December - just because the skyline on a clear day is so beautiful... I know why they call it the Emerald City. And on a clear night.....

Wow, what a nice shot of the gull. Beautiful weather, eh?
Where's the blackbird pie? ;)

Hi Kirk,
After the day trip on the ferry, I really wanted to go back at night. Unfortunately, I didn't have a chance. =( I'm going to make sure that I do it next time.
Hi Allen,
The gull was really hard to photograph. In fact, I took more than 50 photos and only a couple of them came out well. When you watch them, it seems like they are just floating, but they are actually moving quite fast.
As far as the blackbird pie...hmmm, didn't really look out for it! =P

Great pix of the seagull, well worth the 50 times you took of it!

Hi boo_licious,
Thank you so much! It was so hard to capture. This photo was ruined because I cut off one of his wings. =(
