Renee

that's a very authentic looking plate of chicken rice!
I can almost smell and taste it...
so, how was the chilli sauce?... the all-important part of chicken rice for a singaporean : )

Reid

Renee, the chilli sauce was very good. The one thing I forgot was my bottle of black sauce for the rice. =( Funny thing is...this restaurant features Cantonese-style cooking. I don't know where they actually learned to cook Hainese Chicken Rice. I must remember to ask them.

Ryan

Just went here for lunch today. The food was great, but I could've done without the roach hiding out in my menu. I guess he likes the food, too!

That Hainanese Chicken Rice looks a bit too "white" for me. I mean, the rice we have here in SF is more of a yellow-brown color from the chicken broth. Maybe my monitor is bad, but your rice doesn't look like it has too much flavor on it. Next time you're up here, I'll take you to some real good Hainanese Chicken Rice.

Most of the places that have this dish are in the Cantonese-style "Coffee Shop" or Cha Chan Tang. So it's not a stretch to see this dish on Cantonese places. We also have seen an explosion of Malaysian/Singaporean restaurants here and they definitely serve this dish as well.

Reid

Hi Ryan,

Roach? Yikes! I guess he must have liked the Hainanese chicken rice as well.

Hi 808650foodie,

Actually, I think the photo is bad because the chicken rice is actually quite authentic in flavor. When I had the Hainanese chicken rice in Singapore, the rice was similarly colored. Here are links to a few photos:

This last photo is the chicken rice from a pretty famous chicken rice shop called, Boon Tong Kee.

I love to cook and I like chicken very much!!! I llove to try hainese chicken but unfortunately there's no restaurant here in our town serving hainese chicken. I already know the procedure I really wanted to give it a try, the problem is we don't have chili sauce here!!!

I've been here! Good Hong Kong style roast duck noodle (this place is especially nice to visit if your father has a grudge against Mini Garden and won't let you eat there, haha)! Also, best red bean ice drink (huung dao bing) in town. I would have to say that their food is pretty authentic all around.

Most of the newer photos on this site are being taken by this camera. I'm still learning how to use it, but I think the photos it takes are amazing. Though the lens I use often varies, many of the photos on this site are taken with a Canon EF 35mm f2.0 lens.

A majority of the photos on this site were shot using this little camera. It was compact and discreet -- excellent for taking photos under most conditions. Sadly, it has recently died.
