IMBB27 + SHF20 = The Joy of Soy

Imbbshf

June is upon us and that means new editions of two of food blogdom's most prestigious online cooking memes -- Is My Blog Burning? and Sugar High Fridays.

The first event, Is My Blog Burning?, was born out of the creative genius of Alberto at Il Forno.  He first proposed the idea, and concept, to a handful of bloggers back in January 2004.  That first event, staged in February of 2004, drew a small (13 entries), but illustrious group of food bloggers -- the roundup listed entries by Pim, Josh, Maki, and Elise among others.

FACT:  For those of you who don't know, this blog was started in April of 2004 because I wanted to participate in IMBB #3 which was being hosted by my favorite blog (now defunct) Shiokadelicious!.

The second event which is considered the first "official" spin-off of IMBB?, Sugar High Fridays, was created by Jennifer at the Domestic Goddess.  This was the perfect event for those of us with a sweet tooth and the first event, held in September/October of 2004 was anchored by the participation of Clement, Viv, Zarah Maria and Cathy.

So here we are, right in the midst of a food blogging explosion and I'm hosting not one, but TWO events concurrently.  Thanks go out to Alberto and to Jennifer for allowing me to play host for the month.  And now, here's the good stuff:

Prepare a dish using a soy.  Use soy milk, soy beans, tofu, tempeh or any other soy preparation in your dish.  Since this is a combination IMBB?/SHF event, be creative!  Send me an e-mail with a link to your entry no later than Sunday, June 25th (that means Monday, June 26th for those of you on the other side of the International Date Line).  If you don't have a blog, but would like to participate, send me an e-mail with your recipe, a photo of the dish (if possible) and any information that you would like published with your entry and I will post it for you.

The roundup will be posted on Monday, June 26th (keeping my fingers crossed).  The roundup will also be done automatically if you chose add the following bits of code to your post:

<a href="http://technorati.com/tag/IMBB27" rel="tag">IMBB27</a>

<a href="http://technorati.com/tag/SHF20" rel="tag">SHF20</a>

Have fun!

Hi Reid - How great that you are hosting these events! Can you believe it's been over two years already for IMBB? and almost two years for SHF. Can't wait to see what everyone cooks up.

nice entry summarizing it all, lovely links, and you are a cool maniac for hosting both...

Hi Reid - what a great theme! I don't know much about soy, but it's something I think I'll have fun experimenting with.

Hi Reid,
So nice of you to host the two events! Can't wait to see the roundup. :)

Wow. This one will be soy interesting! lol

cool! i have never worked with soy! i'm excited about this challenge and have already picked my recipe!

i miss renee. but glad to see something that's under her theme.

ah well. anyway, will ask granny about something soy. ^^

Hi Clare,

I'm glad you're participating.

Hi Elise,

I can't believe it's been so long, and I can't believe how long you've been at it as well! I hope you can participate!

Hi TG,

Welcome to the blog!

I think I'm crazy too, but I'm hoping for lots of participation! Hope you'll join us.

Hi Cathy,

Good luck!

I picked soy because it's healthy and a good protein substitute for vegetarians. It's also good for those of us (Asians) that are lactose intolerant. Can't wait to see what you cook up.

Hi Obachan,

It was nice for both Alberto and Jennifer to allow me to play host. I do have to tell you though that my hosting both events at the same time is due to a mixup with the scheduling!

Hi AG,

I hope it is...and I can't wait to see what you have in store for us!

Hi barbie2be,

Welcome to the blog!

Already picked your recipe?!!! Wow talk about fast. Can't wait to see what you picked. I'm sure it will be delicious.

Hi Wena,

Long time no hear!

I miss Renee too. I really excited to see you participating. I'm sure Granny will have something for us all to enjoy.

hi reid! (we are doing SF reviews at the same time, lol!)

anyway, so do we need to do to dishes? or does this mean we do a sweet soy dish to fulfill both?

hi reid, can you get the announcement posted in IMBB? i would have missed out if i din check yr blog :p

http://www.ismyblogburning.com/

Hi Sarah,

I saw that and thought it was quite funny! Remember how you had eaten at Warszawa and I had done so too?

I still haven't finished my post by the way...and I haven't seen yours up yet either. =P

Getting back to the event, you can do one...or two, if you're feeling in the mood to. But seriously, one sweet dish should satisfy both events.

Hi babe_kl,

Yes. I just looked that the IMBB site and noticed that it wasn't posted. I emailed them again to see if they could post the announcement and I've extended the dates of participation. Hope you join us!

FOUND YOU! I do not get emails sent direct through IMBB; if you want anything listed there you should contact me directly.

Sorry I missed this round - I have only just realised that SHF had gone quiet!

Hi there,
Yes, do know where SHF is announced? I've missed the last couple of ones because they weren't listed on IMBB - I feel quite out of the loop!

btw, I love your blog - sorry it's taken me so long to actually comment!

Equipment

  • Canoneos5d
    Canon EOS 5D

Most of the newer photos on this site are being taken by this camera. I'm still learning how to use it, but I think the photos it takes are amazing. Though the lens I use often varies, many of the photos on this site are taken with a Canon EF 35mm f2.0 lens.

  • Dscu40r
    Sony Cyber-shot® DSC-U40

A majority of the photos on this site were shot using this little camera. It was compact and discreet -- excellent for taking photos under most conditions. Sadly, it has recently died.
